The most expensive spice in the world, saffron comes from the stigma of a violet crocus. Pervasively fragrant and intensely flavored, a single pinch of saffron can flavor an entire recipe.

Our Spice Islands® saffron threads come from Spain, home of the annual saffron festival. Deep orange-red in color, the threads are unbroken and dry (not oily). They have a musky, flowery aroma and an earthy warmth with a lingering bitterness.
